Preventing spam comments on your blog

By System Administrator October 26th, 2009, under Help

If you have a meme.org.za blog and are receiving spam comments, then it’d be useful for you to implement the anti-spam plugin which is made available to all bloggers.

In order to implement it simply do the following:

  1. Login to the administration dashboard.
  2. Select “Plugins” -> “Installed”.
  3. Find the plugin with the name “SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam”.
  4. Activate it.
  5. Under the “Plugins” section there should now be a new submenu called “SI Captcha Options”. Select it.
  6. We recommend that the minimum of the “Enable CAPTCHA on the comment form” is enabled (all other options may be disabled if you like).
  7. Now logout and do a test comment on your blog to see how it works. It will require the commenter to fill in a field which has the contents of a randomly generated message. This confuses spam bots and therefore kills all the spam comments on your blog!

Adding your blog feed as facebook notes

By System Administrator October 8th, 2009, under Help

It is possible to add the ‘feed’ for your blog to facebook so that every time the blog is updated, the new entry is added to your facebook profile as a note.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. On your facebook profile, find the notes icon on the bottom and click on it.
  2. On the right-hand side of the page, there should be a link to Edit Import Settings. Click on it.
  3. In the Web URL field, add your blog’s feed URL. The feed URL will be <your blog URL>/feed – for example: http://meme.org.za/feed/
  4. Check the box which acknowledges that you give facebook the right to reproduce the information in your feed, then click “start importing”.

That’s it!
